"Deepavali is a very important festival celebrated with lights, sweets, new clothes and a lot of joy everywhere. Everybody is happy and the whole atmosphere is charged with something new. Darkness is driven out with lights and the old is replaced by the new. Deepavali is symbolic of the day Rama killing the daemon Ravana and Krishna killing Narakasura. The daemons symbolise ego, the product of ajnana (ignorance) while Rama and Krishna symbolise jnana or Brahma. We celebrate the occasion with lights which drive away the darkness of ignorance with the light of knowledge (jnana). Where there is jnana there is no ajnana. Actually darkness and ignorance have no independent existence, absense of light (jnana) is the existence of darkness (ajnana). Death of ego spells the end of suffering, so it is the occasion for celebration."

Wishing one and all an enlightening season of this SrI Nandana Naama Samvatsara DeepavaLi.

Rama "freed" Sita-mata from Ravana, and 'liberated' Her on this day. Krishna slayed Narakasura and feed the whole world.
May we also be blessed with 'victories' (forms of vijaya-lakshmi, "SreeH") of Liberation and escape from the duals of (swarga &) naraka by contemplating on the Divine names of Sri Rama and Sri Krishna.
